Goals and Vision

Flushing Meadows Corona Park has always been the Park of the Future

The Wold’s Fair 2064 symbolizes the forward-thinking view of people who recognize the need to improve the environment and to correct past mistakes.

With the following three “Big Idea” proposals:

1) Re-envision the World’s Fair concept for promoting a new industrial and cultural revolution based on sustainability.

2) Envisioning pavilions showcasing new technology for green energy and transportation as well as conservation of biodiversity.

3) Reconnect the park to the neighborhood and city and adapt it to climate change.

If Flushing Meadows Corona Park is truly to be reborn as the Park of the Future, then it is imperative that the Park position itself at the vanguard of sustainability.

Vision and Goals

We propose strategies for a World’s Fair in 2064 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park to play a role in the effort to make a more sustainable world. Flushing Meadows Corona Park should be at the vanguard of this sustainable future. We are proposing that the Park should not merely be sustainable; but that the Park should become a laboratory for sustainable design where professionals could undertake serious research and where the public could come to learn about sustainability, and reap the benefits of a working, healthy system. To that end we suggest a series of goals for all new and future projects: – A net increase in healthy, sustainable, natural areas, with a net gain in vegetation cover to encourage wildlife and improve air quality. – Reduce rather than increase dependency on private automobile use to access the Park, and encourage walking, bicycling and the use of public transportation.

We propose that the The Park become a laboratory for sustainable design where professionals could undertake serious research and where the public could come to learn about sustainability. FMCP will became a world-renowned laboratory for sustainable design.
